With a gorgeous, landscaped garden, this charming three-bedroom home offers plenty of opportunity for peaceful outdoor relaxation whilst still being in the heart of Nairobi. From the front door, the home’s living space opens up onto a classic English Garden, bordered by a healthy hedge and beautifully landscaped with its namesake hydrangea flowers. The garden features a four-seater dining table and a cosy outdoor sofa set, as well as a hammock to enjoy sunny Nairobi days. Relish our city’s famed climate with regular cook outs on the barbeque grill. Because it is entirely enclosed, the Hydrangea House is ideal for pet owners.

On the edge of the garden you’ll find a beautiful hedge-lined walkway leading to the larger, shared gardens that flow with a natural style down to the river, which you can hear gurgling in the rainy season.

The home itself offers stunning views of the gardens and Karura Forest beyond, with large windows that allow for ample natural light. The dining area comprises a table for six, and the living room features a plush sofa and a new Smart TV, with both spaces anchored by beautiful, hand-woven kilim rugs.

The ensuite master bedroom boasts a gorgeous four-poster Lamu bed and a large window overlooking the garden. The second bedroom features a single bed and the third a double four-poster Lamu bed.

The Hydrangea House offers a well-appointed kitchen, and home chefs will delight in the large rosemary bush by the front door, where there is plenty of additional space for a small potted herb garden.

Located in the heart of Westlands, the Hydrangea House is convenient for work commutes within the neighbourhood, to the CBD, and to the UN and Gigiri, for which your trip will run against traffic. There are three shopping centres in the area: Westgate Mall, Diamond Plaza and Sarit Centre. Visit Westgate and Sarit Centre for your grocery needs, at Shoprite and Carrefour, respectively, and head to The Corner Shop at Diamond Plaza for fresh produce.

There are plenty of activities in the area, including a cinema at Westgate, and the Africa Yoga Project and a climbing wall at Diamond Plaza. For fitness lovers, there are several nearby gyms, including the gym at Sankara Hotel and Arena Fitness Centre at Sarit Centre. The Hydrangea House is just down the road from the Thigiri Lane gate of Karura Forest and a short drive from the forest’s main gate. Visit Nairobi National Museum for rotating exhibitions in its art gallery.

Westlands is the heart of Nairobi’s nightlife, so there is no shortage of nearby bars and restaurants. There are two Artcaffes in the area – at The Oval and Westgate – and you can enjoy a lovely al fresco meal at About Thyme. Furusato offers excellent Japanese cuisine, while Haandi and Open House are two of the most popular Indian restaurants in the city. For a fine dining experience, book a table a Sankara Hotel’s Graze Steak House. Sankara also offers a gorgeous Rooftop Bar and Champagne Lounge, while just around the corner you can find Gypsy’s and The Alchemist, two popular bars with local and expat crowds alike.

Rental of this charming home includes electricity, internet, satellite television and back up power. Our trusted housekeeper Rachel splits her day between the Hydrangea House and Tree Tops – our other property in the Cosy Cottages collection – doing your washing up, laundry, ironing and general housekeeping. Maarifa Homes provides for all gardening and security, which includes a perimeter wall, electric fence and an evening dog patrol around the spacious compound. There is also back up power. In addition to the home itself, there is a large lockable garage which can be used for storage, staff quarter or as a hobby room, and a laundry area with a washing machine for your convenience.
